One Year Into a Heartwarming Journey That No One Wants to Be On
I hardly know where to start to describe Coretta Johnson and her grandson, Logan. I write a lot of inspiring stories every year about people who are tackling hard challenges, but this one resonated on another level. Maybe it’s because, like Logan, I was run over by a vehicle when I was very young. But unlike Logan, I was incredibly fortunate. I landed on soft ground and had no injuries. He, on the other hand, was on a city street and sustained extensive damage to his small body.
But this isn’t a sad story. It’s an incredibly happy one.
Life is such a paradox, isn’t it?
Go read the story, and then come back here for an update.
I’ll wait …
Did you read it?
If you did, I know that you would love you an update on Logan.
If you didn’t—dude. Go read it.
It has brought me so much joy to hear from Ms. Johnson about Logan’s progress this past year. First and foremost, she got him into a school he loves, where he loves the social scene and uses eye gaze technology to communicate in addition to the words he is re-learning how to say. He can eat everything and even pick up finger foods with one of his hands (including his beloved crab legs). His sister is a fierce playmate and protector. He still dresses very fly. He loves, watches, cologne, and the playground, and although the one across from their house isn’t particularly wheelchair-friendly (or safe, for that matter), they now have a van with a lift that makes it easier to get around.
Whatever your own personal challenges in 2025, I hope you can face them with the determination of Ms. Johnson and the undaunted efforts of Logan.
