“Hi, I’m new here.”

These four simple words can be terrifying. They single you out as uninitiated (and therefore vulnerable). They’re also an overture toward others, but you don’t know if the response will be acceptance and, eventually, a sense of belonging. No one can be sure what will happen next when entering a new space.

But we still do it—all the time. Humans are curious and social and adventurous. And sometimes we’re forced into new situations not by choice but by life circumstances.

We’re mistake-prone and easily embarrassed, yet we still find the strength to be resilient and tenacious. I’ve always been a firm believer that my missteps can be someone else’s stepping stones, and I’ve been sharing them in my writing for decades.

This site is a collection of such learning experiences from many people. Some authors took the courageous step of doing their own writing, and I am sharing it here with a link to the original publication. Others told me about important moments of their lives and invited me to craft them in my words. I am honored to be entrusted with them all.
